There probably are several things that need to be done to help prevent this, but I think you have to ask "why" are these people doing this in order to really get to the bottom of it.. I've seen a LOT of ideas of what could be contributing to this uptick in violence by young men and, imo, to REALLY address the core situation, you have to try and figure out what is driving this insanity..
Imo, I really don't think these people who commit mass murder are wonderful, salt of the Earth people that, for some reason, bought a gun and that gun made them go totally evil.. I think they were evil to begin with and buying a gun was the easiest, most convenient way to hurt a lot of people all at once.. At the Boston marathon, the killers used pressure cooker bombs.. are we now going to ban pressure cookers? The evil is there.. address the evil - not the vehicle - and maybe you can help prevent these attacks.. maybe.. I DO agree that you probably need to be 21 to buy those type guns, but these people are going to find them somewhere on the black market or steal them.. if there's a will, there's a way..
Tons of covid money for schools went unspent.. that money could be used to help fortify schools.. retired policemen and military people might volunteer to help protect schools.. metal detectors, locking doors from the outside, video cameras etc are all things that could help.. I dunno about arming teachers.. I'm not as confident in that idea for several reasons, including possibly panicking and injuring others or crossfire etc.. I also don't see the point of donating - what -$54 billion, total, to Ukraine when our own country has so many issues that need to be addressed..
But, I honestly don't think making assault guns illegal will change anything.. I mean, in murdering all those people how many laws did that guy break? A LOT.. He broke a LOT of laws.. I don't think breaking one more law would be a big deal to someone who is determined to hurt people.. its just my opinion..
