I'll keep it short. There is an old air field used to train Pilots during WWII about 20 miles from me. Eagles Field... I've posted about it before.
Some years ago I was out rummaging thru the ruins and came across an old black and while photo of an airman and a young lady.. perhaps his wife, girlfriend? That photo fascinated me and I wondered if it would be possible to identify them... send them the photo if I did. I couldn't. Eventually I took the photo back to Eagles Field and buried it near where I found it in a waterproof container. Laid it to rest, so to speak.
Not long after a guy tried, and is still trying, to get a museum started there. I thought, "HEY, go get the buried photo and give it to the museum". Alas... when I returned I discovered that a lot of work had gone into the area... removing old trash, disking to clear weeds... and they had disked the location where I buried the photo... no chance of finding it other than by pure luck.
Eagles Field was also a German prisoner of war camp. I could be remembering this incorrectly but I think Waterfield has been there.... and also Crazylegs.. who I "THINK" attended a yearly function they have there where they dress in WWII uniforms/outfits and dance to big band music. - JamesJM
