To me, it's all about the music. When listening to a tribute band, the more they 'sound' like the original the more I enjoy it. The music is much much more important to me than their look, or their show. I go in understanding that the original is long gone. But I love live music, and if they're a good band I usually have a great time. And I've seen a few cover bands that take the original stuff, and "make it their own" kinda thing... Well if it sounds good, I'm ok with it, but when it sounds bad... well I just don't stick around.
I've seen the Fab Four Beatles tribute band a few times, and really enjoyed it. Like Rain, and Beatlemania, the Fab Four are a show meant to look sound and act like the original group with the accents, wigs, and and banter. Ok well I'm a huge Beatles fan, and these guys really sound good, but watching them up close is just too weird for me. So what I do, is make sure I gets seats far enough back so as to still be able to hear, and enjoy the music, and can easily see them on the stage. But too far to actually make out their faces. Then I can sit back, enjoy the music, and sometimes actually imagine like it's a mid sixties concert.
But yes, generally speaking, I'm good with tribute bands.
