I have seen the band "Rain", which is a Beatles tribute band, and I enjoyed them, but mostly because the production was off the hook.. a good friend of mine plays in "Back in Black" who are the number one rated AC/DC tribute band and I've seen them ONCE and never felt the need to go back.. almost zero production, although it would be difficult to tall them apart from the real AC/DC..
I've seen a highly rated Def Leppard tribute band that I thought sucked.. I've seen a Kiss tribute band that just didn't feel right to me.. All the makeup and stuff, but zero production an everyone knows Kiss was all about the production.. Seen a Whitesnake tribute band - why bother? Metallica tribute band - not enough individualism to even bother with a tribute band to Metallica..
There are handfuls of Motley Crue tribute bands.. I've seen maybe 4 different Motely Crue tribute bands and they all sucked, imo.. Seriously? You have guys pretending to be Tommy Lee, the most flamboyant drummer ever, and they don't even twirl sticks? WTH? Seen one with a Mick Mars (guitar) dude who ran all over the stage and flipped his hair back and forth.. Mick Mars has never moved more than one step in his entire career and has never once flipped his hair - especially with his muscle disease.. its like, if you're gonna do a tribute to the band, shouldn't you try to LOOK like the band, ACT like the band, and have similar production to the band?
Queen for a day is probably the highest rated Queen tribute band.. I've seen them once, because we opened for them years ago.. musically ok, but Queen was a very flamboyant band and these guys didn't even TRY to replicate any of that..
Rain is the only tribute band I've ever seen that I enjoyed.. From what I've seen of the Beatles, these guys looked and acted like them and although the Beatles probably had zero stage production, these guys added it to where it was cool.. not like a "copy" type thing, but they used it to help tell the story..
I don't know what to tell you about the Zepplin tribute band.. I've heard of Zep tribute bands, but have never seen one.. hopefully its not one where the Robert Plant dude has a ridiculously poor wig on and his shirt open, but a totally hairy chest.. I don't know if you'll dig them, or not.. I have a pretty high standard for tribute bands and very few of them tick the boxes.. I'd try to find them on youtube and get a taste of what they bring to the stage.. if you dig what you see, then worth a shot going to the show.. if you aren't impressed, then I'd stay away cuz live it won't be any better..
Friendship is like peeing your pants.. Everybody can see it, but only you can feel the warmth..
