I think NASCAR popularity actually gained after that, however. At least for a time.

Today.... I don't know. Certainly the tracks aren't having trouble selling out. I don't have any feel for the popularity across the USA.. more? Less? Seems the same to me... I think it did get more media play in the past... but whether that has had an effect on fans I'm not sure. - JamesJM
