But I wasn't shocked in the least by the fact you love the Drags.
As you describe NASCAR I do the same with the Drags... it's far down my list in favorite automotive sports but that doesn't mean I'm not a fan.
When I was growing up there was a Drag Strip not far from me.... Raisin City... TINY community a little east of me. Actually, at one time we owned the parcel of land just at the end of the strip. In those days they had open events and I raced my Pontiac GTO there many times.
Another connection... my old barber's (RIP), son-in-law is Gary Scelzi.
Like you... the 'power'. The 'noise'. Noise, that reminds me... I first saw a Jet Dragster at Raisin City. I remember the announcer telling the fans to stand, cover their ears and open their mouths... that the noise was going to be ferocious. On Manning, (the road just behind the start line), the road was closed by the Highway Patrol when the Jet Dragster made it's run. Talk about exciting.
Actually I believe their still exists a drag strip very near me... Eagle Field near Firebaugh Calif. I'm not sure they still run there... BY GOLLY they do, I just looked it up... but it's not for the big guys. And I've never been there for the drags although I've visited there many times... it was one of the main pilot training facilities during WWII... also a prisoner of war camp for Germans. - JamesJM
