I wouldn't have noticed... ALTHOUGH, I actually was beginning to get into metal/hair bands by then. I did hear Nirvana, a little. They came out early 90's? Have I got that about right?
Early 90's was life changing for me. Always a Jazz fan, since youth, the very early 90's was when I got into smooth jazz. The song "You Make Me Smile" by Dave Koz did it. Still just possibly my all time favorite song. In rapid succession I heard smooth jazz, a radio station near me began playing smooth jazz, and Fresno actually became one of the most popular venues for smooth jazz concerts in the entire USA/World.
For the next decade, and for the first time in my life, I nearly, (not quite entirely), dedicated myself to one genre... smooth jazz. IOW... in the 90's I heard less music from other genre's than I had during any other decade of my life.
Today I'm back to multi-genre listening but still not paying close attention to 'new' music.. some, but not a lot. Again, NOT because I think it to be inferior... I'm just perfectly content with rediscovering older music I missed when it was popular.
