For years #1 for me was "The River's Edge". Then I saw "Leaving Las Vegas" and that took over #1.... but that was fleeting, after some reflection I moved "The River's Edge" back into #1 with "Leaving Las Vegas" a worthy #2.
Now comes another contender... just watched "Calvary" starring Brendan Gleeson. Brendan may be my current favorite actor. Mad Eye Moody in Harry Potter... and loved him in "In Bruges". Perusing movies I hadn't seen I checked for a Brendan film... found "Calvary"... considered it, then noticed Emmet Walsh was in it and he happens to be one of my favorite all time character actors.... that did the trick, just finished watching "Calvary".... holy depths of depression.
I know many of you are terrified about a coming Zombie Apocalypse.... understandably so... but HEED MY WORDS HERE.... get on your knees and PRAY TO GOD that it's Zombie's that come and NOT the characters from whatever town that is in Ireland where the movie "Calvary" takes place. There are no words to describe that level of mental illness.
Every so often I get sullen thinking how I'm not that good a person... then I see something like "Calvary" and I break out in tears of joy that not in my most depraved state of mind could I have dreamed up a screenplay like that used in "Calvary".
Here's the plot synapsis, "That depress you? Wait, how bout this? Depressed now? Oh you think so? Then how about this? Ha Ha, we're just getting started, how about this?".
I'm going to have to binge watch the 3 Stooges for the next 6 months to recover, and I'm not even sure that will work. - JamesJM
