I'm considering the 'guilty' thing.
I hunted for most of my life. And an animals ability to see 'movement' can "seem" otherworldly. Many times I've tested it by making just a slight movement while watching a deer 100+ yds away, and as yet unaware of my presence, and they'll spin to the movement in the blink of an eye.
I was once on a bow hunt on the Kaibab Plateau.... full cammo, face paint, scented, the works. I had knelt in the middle of a dirt road to scout the area when I spotted a doe come into view some 100yds or so away.... I had to 'test' my hunting abilities, (I wasn't hunting does). I froze. The doe actually noticed me pretty quickly.... no doubt she was put on alert by 'something' in the road that either hadn't been there before and/or shouldn't be there, (me). She was curious.... but I didn't blink. It what seemed like hours, (staying dead still is HARD), she approached me...nearer, and nearer.... I remained a statue.
I could easily see when she caught my scent.. she went to Defcom 3... but I remained still. Closer, closer.... she actually came up and with her nose less than a couple of inches from me sniffed this weird looking thing on the road. I know what you're thinking...
Did I suddenly jump up and screech raspberries.... and I confess I was tempted to do just that, painfully so....but I did not. I remained a statue. She sniffed at me for a minute, maybe a little longer... then slowly turned and sauntered away... no hurry at all.... and only checked back to me a few times before disappearing over a hill.
One of my proudest moment.
Had it been 200 years ago I would have been awarded and eagle feather. As it was... nobody believed me.
