the only movie that moved me so, that it brought me to a tear.
It's the "Days of Wine and Roses." A tragic story of alcoholism and how this disease tears apart love.
The "tear moment" came at the final scene when Jack Lemmon looked sadly down on the street filled with cheap dives flashing flickering signs as Lee Remick turned into one. And that point, he knew he lost her forever. It was a moment of moments.
At the end, when Joe looks down on the street at Kirsten walking away from his apartment, she actually passes by a bar on the corner but she doesn't go in. She gets to the corner and crosses the street... disappearing into the night. When he was putting his daughter to bed, he explains to her that Mommy is sick. She asked him "Will Mommy get better?" He said, "I did, didn't I?" But as he gazes at Kirsten out the window, the look on his face is that he's watching her for the last time. Henry Mancini's "Days of Wine and Roses" theme song is hauntingly beautiful and sad, too (It won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1963). I agree though that this is probably the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Fantastic acting, though, by Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. Both were nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress for their roles in the move but they lost out to Gregory Peck (To Kill A Mockingbird) and Anne Bancroft (The Miracle Worker).
