I was VERY involved for quite a few years. Got serious about it.... never was on the roster for any of the 'elite' teams in Calif. but I did play with them often... filling in.
LOVED those days... and were it not for some lingering injuries, (none serious but all debilitating), I'd probably still be playing today.
Probably my most proud accomplishment in sports was my batting average against some 'legendary' fast pitch pitchers from those days... Greg would recognize their names, like Salazar.
Like you I saw some truly incredible talent in fast pitch softball... but I do have one 'complaint'.
They were cocky, absurdly cocky, for the most part. I used to hit near .600 for a season... and I wasn't alone, not even close, many better than me. And we used to ask ourselves this question: "What is harder to hit? Hardball or Fast Pitch Softball"... I never ONCE heard anyone that didn't think Fast Pitch Softball was harder.... I stood alone... "NO, it's not"... my opinion.
I would regularly ask one of these 'boasters' that if Fast Pitch Softball was harder to hit and you're hitting .700 in Fast Pitch league what the hell would you hit in MLB? 1.000?
