We've got a couple of nieces and nephews on my wife's side of the family who address us by our first names instead of aunt or uncle. It just bugs the #### out of me, but it's how they were brought up.
you nailed it... by human nature, people need to be respected to give respect. They were not brought up that way or they were not respected growing up...that's the root cause of the manners issue...
a positive culture that fosters genuine "manners" needs to be reinforced in society these days.... it's starts at home, our youth programs (sports, extra curricular activities etc) and schools......
what I mean by genuine manners is meaningful manners based on actions not just words aka Eddie Haskel manners with no integrity.
