Re: This post is about Cruise Ships....

As you know Frank and I used to go on jazz cruises. We went on 5 before health and family issues interfered and our tropical vacations came to an end. Now we don't have the energy or desire to travel anymore so no more cruises for us.

As far as sea sickness, I had never taken any kind of meds for sea sickness although I always packed some dramamine with me just in case. It just so happened that during one of our Caribbean jazz cruises the seas were really rough for several days. The ship was rockin' and rollin and so was my head and stomach. I ended up finally taking some dramamine which turned out to be a big mistake for me because all it did was make me sleepy. I didn't want to spend my vacation time sleeping the cruise away but I didn't know what else to do. Another passenger told me to go to the store when the ship docked at the next port of call... San Juan, Puerto Rico, and buy some sea sickness wrist bands. The wrist bands had these little balls attached that pressed on the inside of your wrist like pressure points and somehow that pressure lessened or eliminated feelings of sea sickness. Whoda thought? When we docked, Frank and I walked to a Walgreen's which was a few blocks from the ship and we bought 4 bands... two for him and two for me. It's been years since I've had the occasion to use them but if I remember right, they DID work!! It also helped that the weather cooperated and the seas calmed down some so the whole trip wasn't spent with me wanting to either die or hurl my lunch overboard.

So... yes... you can get seasick on big, mammoth cruise ships. It all depends on the weather and how calm the waters are. The big cruise ships have these built in stabilizers which really help in making you feel like you're on solid ground as the ship slips through the water. But they can't eliminate everything so if the seas are really rough... you're probably gonna feel it. We sure did!
