Another way to think about it, 43, is that only Funk made the 'active 48' while Perkins and Evans will be the inactive 5, as part of the 53. Plus 2 Practice Squad players can be made active per game, so if the Rams re-sign Jake Harris to the PS, they can activate him on game day for the 4 special teams he played on.
My question on Funk is whether he played a gunner or other critical role on STs that we just weren't privy to. I don't recall Funk returning KOs of punts before Powell was signed. I wish they'd share the ST roles for players like Funk but we'll just have to go to the tape and see it for ourselves. Can't remember Funk downing any punts last year but I think Harris did.
In any case, PS players do matter more now than when they used to just be practice players and never activated on game day. Can't remember exactly when they started doing that either - must be getting old.
