Yep. And personally I think that's a huge problem with a HC calling the offensive plays. I seems to me that calling all the offensive plays is a full time job, and McVay clinging to that role has got to keep him from being able to see an issue like that (i.e., running the ball against the novel defensive front the Bengals were using) let alone designing something to counter it.
Personally I'd like to see Coen call the plays this year, which would free McVay up to do more big-picture stuff during the game. But I already know that's not going to happen ...
