I've yet to get a clear explanation of what the 'gals were doing on defense that prevented us from running the ball. . . Anyone one else have an answer for this?

Simms treated what the Bengals were doing with the alignment of their DTs and edge plates, basically attacking the Rams' guards at the LOS and not letting them get downfield into the second level of the defense.

They also asked their LBs to use vertical rather than horizontal concepts against the run.

Starts at about the 1:10 mark.

Yes, I recall this. But it didn't seem as though there was any video (only a still pic) showing what he was talking about.

Regardless, even in triumph, this aspect of the game was a concern for me. Not so much that an opposing defense was able to come up with a scheme against an important aspect of our offense...but that we didn't appear to have developed a counter to it - for the entire game.

Good point ramBRO. IMO, a lot of this is on McVay. As great as he is...and he IS great..."in game" adjustments do not seem to be his greatest strength.

That Miami game a few years ago comes to mind. Also, when teams first started using a 6-1 front, McVay took a little while before he adjusted. The Bears game a few years ago comes to mind too. I am sure there are other examples I missed too.

As for the SB, most of that goes on Goff but I don't think McVay adjusted very well to it either.

Having said that, McVay might be the BEST HC in the NFL and I am glad we have him but he is not perfect. No coach is. beer cheer smiley

#HelmetHornsMatter

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.

“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood

A 70 to 90 yard game would sure have helped.
