Current and past, All-Pros and busts, all NFL QBs will say the same things: stability of system and coaching staffs are enormous in calculating the probability of success. I think this works at player acquisition as well.

Because you keep the same systems, with the same FO and essentially the same staff, you can develop a strong profile of exactly what you are looking for. A profile that isn't changing every year or every other year.

Further, when you are able to more precisely define a profile, then you can reduce it to terms that can be mined by analytic models.
So for the Rams, the analytics determine the athletic ability (floor and ceiling), interviews determine the psychological profile, and excellent film breakdown determines actual football ability and scheme fit.

It all begins with stability, but it also requires excellent staff and good viable systems that have proven effectiveness. Then everyone can truly believe in it, and belief itself is a powerful dynamic.

And then there is the issue of winning. If all the above translate to winning, sustainable success happens. If not, all the above is worthless.

The Rams system only works when you already have a strong starting roster

Uh, what was the Rams record in 2016 under Jeff Fisher?

NewMexicoRam184April 04, 2022 04:49AM

The Fisher system was still "draft your way to success"

RockRam219April 04, 2022 06:38AM

It's McVay that makes this possible

merlin214April 04, 2022 07:04AM

Or McVay allowed Snead to do it his way

NewMexicoRam131April 04, 2022 10:46AM

  Les certainly deserves credit

I remember Snead making a comment prior to that first draft with McVay
