One alternative would have been to give AD a 3-year $67.5M contract in 2018 instead of the 6-year, $135M he got.
The average per year is exactly the same: $22.5M a year. But AD would have been a FA this year instead of being tied to the Rams thru the 2024 season.
I do not see how that would have been a better approach. Even if the Rams were able to re-sign AD, what it would have cost? Maybe 3 years, $90M? Or more?
