The more any single player gets, the less is left for his teammates. FO’s can play games with the verbiage in the contract and kick the can down the road but ultimately the preceding statement is true.
I’m all for rewarding excellence but once a lucrative contract is signed that player should honor it’s terms and play his best. Leave some for his teammates both present and future.
I’m a big fan of Snead’s strategy of bringing in elites and renegotiating 6 year contracts every 3 years is not helpful to achieving that larger goal.
Stafford showed the way with his extension by not trying to get every drop of blood from the Rams even though his is a very lucrative contract. A win-win signing. And I doubt that we’ll hear a peep out of Stafford about new money even if he wins 5 more consecutive SB’s.
I get the love for AD’s play, I’m a huge admirer myself. But which is more important, the team or a few elite players? I think team needs are paramount.
