They were not prepared for his not signing, and could not react fast enough to pursue some of the other top edge players (several of whom they liked).
So, maybe Von did blindside them in essence.
You may have seen something else from her, but I got a slightly different feeling when listening to the recently released podcast.
The sense that I got from her was that, rather than giving Miller a deadline to decide to accept/reject their contract offer (like it seems Denver did), the Rams decided to give him some runway as it was his first real crack at FA. In essence, I thought she was saying that the team felt that it would harm their chances of resigning him they jammed him up.
Unfortunately: A) Miller took longer than they liked (forcing them to miss out on Plan B...and maybe even Plan C); and, B ) When he did decide, it wasn't in our favor.
Regardless, it appears to me that the team couldn't hold their water and made an unnecessary panic purchase with Robinson.
Let me take that back.
If they believe that Robert Woods had lost a step pre-injury, or isn't going to regain his performance after rehab...then it was a very shrewd pick-up.
I guess time will tell.
