So they have a rook to work in. Do so. Play him. Why do you have to cut a guy?
Now, let's stipulate what you say: K Y is inconsistent. But he is also very solid on many occasions. He was at the heart of the big stops on Sun. Most of the D has been inconsistent this year. But he is one of who really gave us something much of the time.
Meanwhile, what about Reeder? OK, he won't earn much in the market. And he is left behind.
So we have a rookie and a really weak guy and little else. We are really thin. What if one ILB gets hurt?
What if rookie disappoints?
And then there is the return we got. Swapped picks and 1.4 in cap space. Really? Is that worth dumping one of the few guys who has been productive, even if he was somewhat inconsistent? We couldn't get more from a desperate DEN bunch? If they wouldn't raise the price, we couldn't walk and keep our asset?
I cannot see how this trade doesn't stink. We need LBg this year and we just weakened our hand for pocket change.
Young is not a plus starter at ILB. He's a marginal guy, a journeyman LB. He was playing hard for the Rams so it's crappy. But they drafted Jones in round 3 and want to play him and get him ready for the playoffs. But also he's cheap and they were up against the cap.
I think it all adds up. This is a business. Our depth is not better with this move but it was made because he is not the plan at ILB and they don't have the cap to pay him as a backup.
