I really don't understand why teams put their whole season on a guy like Bridgewater. It isn't just him but guys like him. Why would you want to settle like that? You know you're just going to get mediocre production. The whole team knows.
And that's the bigger issue. What does it say to your team that you are happy with mediocre at QB? Are fans and players really motivated when they know that the floor's the limit? As a backup, guys like that are perfect. You know you can't expect too much but they are viable enough for everyone else to step up and still have a chance at winning. But as your starter?
I'd rather take a chance on a guy who is unknown with a high ceiling potential. Even if he fails, at least your team and the fans know you weren't just settling.
