Ramsrule can back me up on this... early on I had seen Bradford on TV, (every game), then traveled, with Ramsrule, to see him live. Live makes for far better judgements, IMHO. I watched him play and after the game turned to Ramsrule and said, "He's good, he's not the guy". It killed me to say that... seriously.. because I loved Bradford.
I'm not going to go into it here but it was very similar to the way I saw Goff. Whom I also loved. Both were very, very talented... but something was missing. Lot of bad decisions, by both... certainly not all their fault, nor even most, but too many for an 'elite' QB.
I'll never forget getting Sam, I was as high as a kite. Same with Goff.. although up until about a week before the draft I was a Wentz guy... (yeah, doesn't speak highly of my prowess as a QB judge does it?
).
I do think you make a good point... if in the right place, the right support... I DO wonder about that. But then... and again, like Goff... I saw things they landed squarely on their shoulders, and somewhat often.
Hard to say that on the internet because people tend to read this and go extreme... "JamesJM thinks Bradford and Goff sucked"... and that couldn't be further from the truth. - JamesJM
I stuck with Bradford until the bitter end. It was sad seeing him hobble around on one knee with the Cardinals. Injuries were his biggest problem by far but even putting those aside, I agree, there was something missing with him. People hate the "it" factor (non)explanation but I think it exists. Some QB's just have that something extra that allows them to strategically take chances. Bradford just wasn't wired that way. He was a very capable facilitator but he relied on his receivers to make something happen instead of taking shots down the field or into the end zone.
And I wouldn't hold it against you for preferring Wentz over Goff. I felt the same. Not that I had any particularly strong feelings regarding either of them but for Jeff Fisher's Rams, Wentz was the better fit and choice IMO. And it isn't like Wentz has been a total bust. He was arguably the MVP in '17 and even if one doesn't think he was, he was in the conversation. If he stays healthy, he can actually play just fine.
But I think it's been long enough that people may have forgotten how good Everett was before infamy set in. Between the phantom sack and the Jim Rhome spectacle, Everett's memory has been forever tarnished. But he was one of the best QB's the Rams ever had. It's too bad that all he's remembered for are those couple of down moments. Bradford and Haden were not in his class when it comes to ability on the field.
