The two times I recall Kupp back on punt return the Rams had already decided that they would not return the punt due to how short the field was. It would not have mattered if Tutu was the second coming of The Flash: the Rams had already decided not to return the punt so Tutu's superior speed was not a factor.
The role of the punt returner on those two kicks was only to decide whether to fair catch or let the ball go into the endzone. It is plainly obvious to me that the Rams want Tutu handing PR duties when an actual punt return is in play, but they rely on Kupp's superior experience when the only job the PR has is to make the decision to fair catch or not.
I haven't seen the "superior speed" from Tutu that I see some talking about. He seems quick but not superior IMO. Tyreek Hill has "superior speed" and you can see it with almost every part of his game. I just haven't seen that from Tutu yet. I hope that changes when he gets some opportunities.
As for Tutu not in on fair catch situations, I just don't get it. Obviously McVay or Coach D thinks Kupp is more trustworthy as fair catching than Tutu.
Why is that? Is Tutu not catching them well enough in practices? Is he putting it on the ground? There has to be a reason he is not doing it in games. After all, how hard is it to catch the darn ball? Especially if you are supposed to be the starting PR! Shouldn't "fair catching" the ball be the easier of the skills needed to be a PR?
I understand why Tutu is not seeing the field on offense. It's more complicated than PR and also has a lot of talent ahead of him. As for PR...who is ahead of Tutu? Who is his competition and how bad are they if we can't trust them to fair catch either?
#HelmetHornsMatter
“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
