Lot of posters are afraid Perkins will be 'snatched up' if we cut him. But there are only 2 ways this happens - he's offered a shot at another team's practice squad. But he's been here, been coached here, not sure he would go somewhere else. The other thing that could happen is a team puts him on the active roster. Since most teams only keep 2 QB's on active roster - this team would basically be making him their #2. That would mean there's a chance he could wind up playing as soon as a few plays into opening day (let's say the #1 qb gets hurt). So that's banking your early season on a guy who doesn't know your playbook, or your scheme, blocking or offensive concepts and has been in the building taking #2 reps for like a week. I don't see many OC's or head coaches rolling like this. When emergencies happen and starters and back ups both go down, teams usually bring in veterans - no matter how mediocre - who have played in multiple systems / schemes.
I could be wrong about all this and he may get signed away, but at this point he's still a developmental QB. Next year he might give Wolford a run for his money at #2, but not today.
