Good article and the Rams have drafted well, for not having first round picks, but some of those guys are gone now in Cooks & Goff. Overall, adding Ramsey was a no brainer and signing him long term, ensured the trade was worthy, but lost in this trading picks for high profile players is cost. First round picks in today's NFL is cheap labor, the Rams by trading for proven commodities, have to pay for them and thus are always up against the cap.

I agree the Rams are always up against the cap and would like to add that the real cost is being forced to fill the team with young talent. They are always the youngest team in the league because so much of the money goes to the elite players that they have to fill in the rest of the squad with very cheap, minimum salary type labor. And that's generally going to be very young players.

Playing in LA, they are likely to be up against the cap no matter which approach they use. If they weren't trading and paying for players, they would likely be signing more of the players they draft to large extensions.

It's a different approach for sure that hopefully bears fruit this year with a SB win.
