There is simply no reason for dramatic announcements any longer about gays in sports.
There never was one before in football.
And again stop and think about the reason for it. The announcement is precisely to take steps toward that normalization you claim exists but which the gay community in the USA flatly says does NOT exist.
You and I are never going to suffer or be stigmatized because of being straight. So we speak from these completely entitled positions. Positions so entitled that they protect us, if we're not careful, from the truth. The truth in this case being that if you are an out gay in the USA you are likely to encounter hostility, stigmatizing, and even threats because of it. Only people like us who do NOT face that are in the entitled position to say it does not matter.
In fact one of the things Nassib did was publicly announce he is donating to the Trevor fund, whose purpose is to address the huge numbers of teen lesbian and gay suicide attempts. The numbers there are way in excess of the mainstream population. Why do you think that is? Because one's sexual orientation is just not an issue anymore? Not likely. That's the kind of thing Nassib wants us to hear. I doubt he wants to hear straight guys telling him that actually there's no issue.
