There is simply no reason for dramatic announcements any longer about gays in sports. There's no glass ceilings for gay athletes to crack. The "stigma" is a most controversial one ONLY because the media wants it to be. As I said, there will be no more nor fewer gay players because the media wants to turn this into a drama that sells air time. There will be never ending sub-sub groups that come and go that the media can exploit if we pay attention to it. We're not talking about race, here, that is all too plain to see. Nassib isn't the 2nd coming of Jackie Robinson. This is about private behaviors, off the field, that are no one's business.
Should we have a major announcement and celebration over the first player of the Bahai faith? How about the first Zoroastrian? Or how about a Jew who refuses to practice or play or work out from Friday sundown to Saturday Sundown? Or on the Jewish holidays? Should any of those persons get special attention because of their particular private "stigma"? Besides, what is stigma for one isn't stigma for all.
Let's move on. Stop helping the media to get rich over this. In what corner of this society don't we find gay people, and everyone already knows it even if it's not a headline? I can't say that I know of anyone who finds such behavior as morally wrong, who also thinks that as a result a gay man shouldn't play NFL football.... or that it even matters... because the players and fans simply want to win. And if a player can help that happen, then great.
