This is a more well rounded view of McVay on his opinion of Stafford and his good mood.
Why wouldn't the head coach be in a better mood when he upgrades the QB position?
No one anywhere argued he should not be in a better mood for getting the trade he wanted.
Let's not pretend anyone said that. There are 2 issues. Both small. First, is it really necessary to dump on the former qb to praise the new one? (The issue is not being in a good mood cause of Stafford...it's saying it in such a way that more unnecessary minor little negativity is thrown at the former qb. Something you said he has regretted doing before.) Second, walking it back is so disingenuous that it's amusing he even tried it (an apologetic comment is better than a silly walk-back effort).
Anyway, MOSTLY what he got called on was
walking it back. Saying it had nothing to do with Goff. When according to YOU, it does have to do with Goff.
To be honest, saying he was in a better mood because of dumping Goff is exactly the kind of tactless comment both you and I, Florida, claimed he stopped doing. You said he regretted some of his unprofessional moments in how he treated Goff, and I agreed with you. I thought he did regret that stuff. Well--here he is doing again, and THEN trying to walk it back as if he was not referencing Goff at all.
Do you believe the walk back comments? I don't.
Is it a huge deal? Obviously not. But, it's just this other minor little nick in McVay's overall "look." One that will change nothing about the season or how the offense goes or how McV does as a coach. But it's still a nick. On the one hand, without having to go there, he praises Stafford at the expense of Goff. Okay, I thought he was over doing those things, but so it goes. THEN he tries to act as if the comment were NOT about Goff, which is not that great a look either.
I say all that because I care about the Rams and their coach--but not just their coach. I always want the Rams to appear classy, professional, with their act together. And (post-Zygmunt anyway), mostly they do. I feel no inhibitions whatsoever, though, in mentioning it when they don't.
