...Cap hell came up cause someone said you could mortgage the cap again to get enough money to sign a starting caliber left OT. There are 2 responses to that. No you can't keep restructuring...
...And remember since it's both tackle and center...
...
Actually you're misrepresenting what was said. What was stated is that they could roll Whit's $13M after retirement into the LOT position. And IF that's not enough for a free agent LOT, it would certainly be enough to sign someone with the rest spread out over the contract.
Three simple questions here:
1) Is it possible for them to use the $13M to sign an LOT and backload a little if necessary? Yes or no?
2) Is it possible for them to restructure contracts next year? Yes or no?
3) Is it possible that Anchrum is the future center so they don't need to sign anyone at that position? Yes or no?
Sorry, I followed that perfectly well and I responded to all of it already---and will do so again. I'm used to these pile-on sessions.
Assuming there even is a FA LOT--something you don't address--you are not going to get a starting left OT on 13 M plus backload. There's going to be someone who gives a starting caliber LOT a better deal than that.
As I said they cannot keep restructuring without serious cap hell pouring into later years. They already did it once. Doing it 2 years in a row just causes other problems. By pretending the issue is "is it possible" you are not addressing "is that good cap policy." And the Rams themselves have said, repeatedly, that it's not.
And again this is all based on the really unlikely possibility that there even is a FA left OT some team is letting walk. In terms of not addressing things, I brought up the how much Kansas City paid in a trade for Orlando Brown. That's really indicative of how the LOT market works.
Could they convert Anchrum to center? If they do that's interesting, but at the same time it would mean they moved a 1-year to center while making a hole at guard, which is 2 moves, with a third move coming--on top of everything else there's a new center in 2022.
And the very fact that you hint here that Corbett might not be back means you're aware of the cap issues. In your view they are not just going to pay Corbett to be the continuing center.
Look. It's not going to work to try and turn them having issues at both center and left OT in one year into some kind of lame fan competition over whether or not criticism of the team is permissable or must instead be piled on.
It's not easy to act like that is this completely empty issue that just some normal "the team's got this" rhetoric can handle.
You're better off approaching this particular issue by just simple admitting, no in this combination of circumstances handling issues at both center and LOT within one year is a bit of a challenge. That's the honest thing here.
But keep going if you must. I would think that sooner or later, instead, you would recognize it's just more reasonable to go "yeah we'll see how they'll handle that, that a big issue." Rather than act like you're in a sparring match with Youngblood53 over nothing.
