Wow. Whole lot to unpack there, Dead.
I’m gonna try to keep it simple and logical based upon known facts and Rams actions (or lack of) thus far.
I think a pick at C makes a ton of sense because of both value and need. May or may not be Meinerz, btw. May not be at 57 or 88, either, depending on who else falls.
Both C and edge are ‘21 needs and pressing ones at that, therefore a pick early at either should surprise no one.
Boom is a semi-champagne problem, if you will. He’s gonna be a UFA and therefore expensive in ‘22. But is he a good enough LOT to replace Whit? Only the coaches know, but I will say that it wouldn’t surprise me either way should Rams extend or let him walk in ‘22. Flip a coin, man.
Now, depending on how Rams really feel about Boom, LOT could be rather high on their list. But if they see Boom as their LOT moving forward, then LOT might go to the back burner. Fwiw, I think Boom could be an above average LOT if he can improve his run blocking technique.
About Center. It’s an enigma to those not involved in the meetings inside the building. I think that we can only conclude 3 things, logically. They really like someone already on the roster, they’re gonna start a drafted rookie or sign a cheap vet to be a placeholder for the rookie, or there’s already some trade in place that we know nothing about. That’s it.
I don’t share your skepticism about rolling with an in-house player at C, btw. I think it’s a legit possibility given the 3 options and just might be the least risky.
Lastly, I don’t put any credence into which positions Rams like to draft in 2nd-3rd rounds. I think they stack their board BPA at need positions either this year or next year and go from there.
I see our top picks coming from these 4 positions:
C
LOT
Edge
CB
I see WR as a distant 5th barring a stud falling into their lap.
And I see a C taken somewhere on Day 2.
