If the Rams don't use picks like 57 or 88 on players like Meinerz, then why have 2 meeting with him? Including 1 that included the new OL coach. It seems like alot of work for a smokescreen or a lets kick the tires type of thing if they know all along they have zero interest.
I would think there is at least some level of interest in him to get this involved. We also know the Rams like a few things in their prospects (no absolutes, but I think we could call them preferences):
They like their Senior Bowl guys, not sure if it is the extra year of experience or the extra year of maturity. They do skew that way.
They like team captains. There are too many to count on the roster since McVay arrived.
So Meinerz checks off those boxes.
Then there is this: If you are to believe Jourdan, the plan was to sign Blythe to a 1 year deal for around a million. Now do I believe Jourdan? IDK, but I do trust her more than posters saying they are going with Corbett, Anchrum or Allen. Why? Because it makes more sense to me. Corbett, after flaming out at OG in Cleveland was tried at OC there, and he failed. So jump ahead 3 years, is he now better suited to be a OC? IDK, but I doubt it. Allen? He would be fine with 2 more inches and 15 lbs of pure muscle, what I'm saying is that his issue is physical, not mental. Anchrum? OK give him a shot, he could be great there, but isn't he as much of an unknown as an OC as Meinerz is?
So if the plan wasn't in house, and Blythe is gone, maybe the plan shifts to a 1 year cheap rental. So now, as is the Rams MO, draft for the future OC. Again, Meinery would make sense.
One last thing, alot of people seem to like a OT at 57. As a Bison fan, I'd love Radunz. But why? Are the Rams done with Noteboom as his future replacement? Because Edwards and Corbett seem to be the future at OG and it seems like Evans is the future RT (like after this season). If the Rams aren't done with Noteboom, what are you going to do with Radunz or Little or Hudson or Cosmi or whoever? The backup OT to the backup OT? You aren't drafting a OT to be an OG when you have 2 perfectly capable OGs either.
I'm not saying they won't do it, it certainly feels like a Rams type of move, but I (me personally) cannot wrap my head around why an OT makes more sense than a OC.
Lastly is there a pattern to the position the Rams prefer to draft in the 2nd and 3rd rounds?

10 picks and 5 of them are TE/WR/RB. 3 are DBs, 1 Edge and 1 OL. If there is a pattern its they like their offensive skill or DBs with their first 3 round picks. They also traded a 1st for a WR and a 2nd for another WR. So there is that. Do I think the pick is a RB or a WR? No, a DB? Maybe, it would make a ton of sense, but only if certain DBs are there and I don't think they will be.
