Obviously, Carberry was not a big Blythe fan and wanted to upgrade there. I’ve gotta respect him taking that stand.

Knowing this FO, they’ve got a plan and are sticking to it. It sure didn’t include Blythe and I’m beginning to think it doesn’t include any other cheap remaining FA, either.

I’m seeing 2 remaining overwhelming possibilities. Either they REALLY like someone already on their roster to start this year in front of Stafford,

OR they already have a a pre-arranged trade for their new starting C in place. Could be a player-for-player or a player-for-pick. I’m guessing probably the former.

OR they are hell bent on going all in for a drafted rookie to be their new starting Center. This one seems so unlikely because of the obvious risks.

Thoughts?

My thoughts? There's probably no trade. Who trades a starting caliber center?

I think it's a combination of 2 things. They like someone on the roster and they will draft someone. Probably at tackle too.

We all know that the Rams OL got dominated in around 4-5 games. What I hope they're not thinking is that Stafford makes a difference in games like that. There are a few games in 2020 where Stafford got heavily pressured, and he did not come through in all of them. In fact he didn't come through in most of them. I don't think MS is one of those rare qbs who still plays well when the OL doesn't come through. But to put that in perspective, Wilson in Seattle is one of the few qbs who can still play at a high level when his OL is an issue--and he COMPLAINS about the situation.

To put numbers behind what I said about MS in 2020--

MS was in 5 games in 2020 where the Lions gave up 10 or more pressures. In 2 of those games he had a qb rating in the 90s. The other 3 the avg. qb rating was 78.4.

It is also the case that MS had to play from behind a lot, given that he had to play with the 32nd ranked defense.

Still to me you don't take OL issues for granted.
