I'm curious as to why Brian Allen's name never comes up in this discussion. I see rookies and Anchrum (Who could be worse than a rookie having never played the position) as our OC solution, but nobody mentions the guy who started 9 games for us in 2019.
Yes, I know he was a weak link when he did start, but that was a season and a half ago. He's had time to work on technique and gain strength. Playing between Edwards/Corbett has got to be an improvement over Blythe/Noteboom/Demby. This team doesn't give up on OL they draft. (Witness: Demby is still on the team). If it takes 3 seasons for an OC to mature, this would be his time.
If the team is indeed moving to an inside running game, this suits him more than an outside game, as athleticism is not his strong point (per pre-draft reviews). His background as a wrestler leans more towards leverage than blocking on the move. As fans we keep talking "big blocker", but McVay doesn't seem to use a big OC. At 303 lbs he's bigger than Blythe or Shelton. (Sullivan, however was 312)
For the record, I AM NOT an Allen fan, but I suspect that Snead/McVay are. Of all the players, or potential players, to fill that position the most likely candidate appears to be the guy that McVay saw fit to start previously.
