I suspect that McVay was ‘telling him’ in 14 different ways over the past 2 years, both publicly and privately.
So, either Goff is incredibly dense not to realize something that even fanboys on message boards could easily recognize, OR Goff is being ‘less than totally honest’ about being blindsided.
Pick one. Either one is beyond embarrassing.
It sounds like McVay didn't do a good enough job communicating directly to Goff.
But there was enough indirect communication and passive-aggressive behavior for Goff to know things weren't peachy. I'm not buying the blindsided part.
Please do no make excuses for a head coach not knowing how to communicate.
Yeah Goff knew things were discordant with the head coach, but that apparently goes back months. It's not the qb's job to guess that suddenly the head coach decided he was no longer the qb. He's not supposed to hear that through public comments.
Goff is gone. McV is still here. As Rams fans we want McV to have learned from this and improve.
....
I'm not making excuses for McVay. I've said several times that he displayed bad leadership with his lack of direct communications.
I'm saying I don't buy Goff's blindsided version of events.
And I don't believe the team has an obligation to tell a player that they're on the trade block and no longer the starter after the season.
And I've said as much multiple times in the various threads today that I hope McVay grows from this.
