More than ever, the QB is the most important player in football. You are fighting with your hands tied behind your back trying to win a SB without a really good QB.
And a top tier QB covers up a multitude of weaknesses. In other words, McVay found it unbearably painful trying to win with Goff.
With Stafford, McVay has a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. He views Stafford as a QB that doesn't restrict his offense; he no longer has to plan around his QB. After 2 years of frustration with Goff, that would make any coach giddy, and with a guy like McVay it's only more so.
