I have a different view. The Rams could have gotten comparable value (defined as ~150 pts on the draft board) to Wentz had they waited and traded Goff separately. I think they may have gotten more than Eagles.
Had the rams shopped around Goff, they would have definitely missed out on Stafford auction both in time and compensation.
Not to mention that Carolina had a much better package from a draft pts perspective (#8 overall 1st rounder this year and future 3rd, + bridgewater). If the rams only offer 2x future 1st rounders and a 3rd this year for Stafford (meaning Goff is not included but both future 1sts are), they would have lost that trade to Carolina.
Side note:
There is still a chance that Detroit flips Goff to another team for a 1st + this year. Then we would know without a doubt who gets more draft compensation :-). Detroit can't flip him until March and by all accounts they intend to make him their starter this year.
And to add to that. Not that this is news, but just putting everything down in black n white.
The Detroit GM who took Goff in this trade over a Carolina 2021 top 10 pick was the Rams chief of scouting when they drafted Goff. He was with the Rams all 5 years and saw everything that went on with the qb.
