Do we actually know Goff was never told of his situation except through the media?

As far as I'm aware, we've got the same Watergate questions with Goff.

Whether he was told or not is not the main complaint, it's just part of a larger fabric. We do know it was reported he was not told about any part of this (thus had no indication his coach did not consider him the inevitable starter). That was reported and the contrary was never reported--no one came forward to say no actually we discussed this with him.

The thing that throws all of this into question is Snead's press conference. He joked his way through those questions and probably without even realizing how he came across, basically snickered his way through the issue. It reminded me of Demoff making fun of fans for seeking info about the new uni--which was just not a smart move on his part. I thought it was clear that that was the big issue but I guess sometimes you just have to repeat yourself. cool smiley

This all led to some startlingly bad discussion, where for example posters would try and act like this was all coming up as some kind of emotional backlash over Goff being traded, and other kinds of motives bombing. Frankly very few people if any protested the trade: Stafford is just a good acquisition so that part of it is just not in dispute, really. And some people who identify themselves as pretty much done with Goff also were critical of how Snead handled that press conference. So I am afraid the old "draw party lines" tactic won't work in this case. Better just to read people.

Either way I am hoping for better discussion this time.

The reason I or anyone else would criticize Rams management public behavior is because we want them to come across as classy and professional at all times. I have regularly taken management to task for things over the years, though it has been awhile since they deserved any criticism.

I basically read everyone's posts about this issue. I know where most people stand. And I've come out against ascribing motives to folks over their position on Goff. That kind of stuff isn't helpful for good discussion.

I am one of those that felt the FO, especially Snead, didn't handle this well. However, I admit, this particular instance doesn't bother me as much as it does you. That's fine.

For clarity, I'm more talking about whether Goff knew his future as a starter was iffy. Or at least that they were not happy with his play. It's seemed evident that McVay has been disappointed with Goff's play for a while. I know Farmer and Silver have reported things from Goff's perspective, but I'd like to hear the other side of the story. You know that saying about the truth is usually somewhere in the middle? But it sounds like that's not possible until March.

Who knows, maybe we'll get some reporting on background.

So I'm not really coming down on this issue one

way or the other. I'd just like to hear it from both sides. Other than that, I'm just curious about the smoke-filled back room stuff.

No of course it's not directed at you. I was just venting. Yeah motives bashing is a big thing when people do not actually read each other.

And for clarity, whether or not Goff knew he was not being endorsed as the starter is precisely and exactly what I am talking about. That's one of my points anyway (though not the main one)>

Whether or not they were "disappointed in his play" will always depend on when you;re talking about. He played well in the playoffs under tough conditions. He then finds out from a public press conference, and NOT from a private conversation, that they can't endorse him as the starter and everything is up for grabs. (And this has nothing to do with the trade.)

The Steelers handled that the right way. The Rams didn't.

BUT as I said THAT'S NOT EVEN THE MAIN THING.

THIS is the main thing. When Snead was asked about JG's status, he made a big joke out of it and got all snickery and unprofessional. THAT was not called for. The Steelers did nothing remotely like that. I mean, I don't think that was intentional malice--it's more like he forgot to think about how he was coming across.
