If you are an NFL player do you lock yourself into a long term contract when the cap has gone down for the first time? Maybe you do a one year deal and hope fans are back in the stadiums soon and the cap comes back.
I'm expecting two themes. 1) A lot of good players will be cut, and 2) there will be a lot more 1 year contracts than normal and at lower than normal salaries.
If I'm the Rams I'm taking advantage of both of those things.
Signing cut players doesn't take away from their comp picks when their free agents leave AND when that short term signing leaves the next year they possibly get a comp pick for that player.
In short I expect the Rams to aggressively restructure and trade players to free up money and then get in on some of the better cut players and ring chasers.
