to his payoff value then looking at what Fowler did elsewhere. To be honest I don't see any relationship in the 2. I really think Floyd was abetter all around then was Dante. IMO Dante was a sack guy only for the most part. Floyd showed better in run support than did Dante. I would think that after the last few years all teams see an AD factor with an edge rusher. The similarity they have is their sacks pre AD,with AD and with Dante after AD.....Floyd has yet to be in that department. But I do think Floyd has more ability in areas outside rushing then does Fowler. Dante may have more speed in the rush game.
I'm in full agreement. Floyd's a strong side OLB which is fundamentally different than the type of edge Fowler is.
Fowler's prob is he's built to be a blindside guy but never has lived up to his talent. Guys like that generally end up being tried vs the strong side and if they can't handle the contain they become one of those marginal situational rusher types every team has on their rosters. That year with us he really played well but betting on a guy who "comes on" right before his big contract year was a red flag. Atlanta rolled the dice and got burned and tbh that happens every year in the NFL so I doubt that affects Floyd specifically.
If Floyd walks then there's a need to replace that strong side edge. You gotta replace him. Because if you don't the 9ers and Packers and any other offense that runs the ball well is going to kill us.
But the other element here is what is the value of a SOLB in this year's market? We're about to find out because Floyd is as good as it gets in that role.
