It isn't just the money, it's the promotion. Although I haven't done the research I think everyone who moved on got a job with more responsibility than the one they left. For example:

Staley: DC to HC
Pleasant: CB coach to Defensive Back coach
Barry: LB coach to LB Coach/Defensive Passing Game Coordinator
Waldron: Offensive Passing Game Coordinator to OC
Dickerson: Assistant OL coach to Run Game Coordinator
Coen: Assistant QB coach to OC at Kentucky

This suggests to me that McVay is not very good at promoting from within.

Though that doesn't cover guys like Dickerson--they couldn't bump him up, there's no higher place for him.

Think of the difference between Morris having to learn the Rams D system (a kind of backwards approach) v. Pleasant already knowing the system. Shouldn't he have promoted Pleasant?

In terms of money, Kroenke just plain has an open pocketbook for things like coaching hires, that has been true for a long time.
