Of note, Pleasant didn't leave the Rams to be a DC someplace else, so the message as I see it: teams with a DC opening don't see Pleasant as their best option. Including the Rams.

If he had been hired as a DC elsewhere I would be looking sideways at the Rams. As it is the NFL doesn't see Pleasant as DC material - at least at this point in his development - so I don't really see a story here. (And I get that you do. It's all good ...)

This is a good point. I think it's real simple what happened.

McVay didn't see Pleasant as DC material. Pleasant feels he is DC material and was tired of being passed over...again. So he left the first chance he got in a largely lateral move.

Or, you are just invested in seeing it that way, and the actual truth is, McVay is not good at doing things like promoting internally.

I am not saying which it is cause like you I have absolutely no real idea at this point. '

I am saying that a real, and balanced, view includes--or at least allows for (without over-reaction)--the full range of questions.

AND in the course of the conversation it came out that it did not even have to be Morris v. Pleasant. They could have promoted Pleasant to passing game coordinator, which is basically all that Detroit did.

That would help with continuity and with coaches feeling good about staying with the Rams (ie. they know the Rams do promote from within). And you can do that and hire Morris too.

That of course gets us back to the big questions. Did they not think Pleasant was worth promoting in that way (to passing game coordinator)? Or do they have a problem with not promoting from within?

And again neither you nor I nor anyone else actually knows at this point.

....

Full range of questions is good. Your questions are legit but we simply have no evidence to say that's what it is. Neither can we eliminate your theories as possibilities.

You say they could have promoted Pleasant but we have no idea on that either. As I theorized above, we don't know if Pleasant would have been satisfied with a promotion to passing game coordinator.

I agree that we have no idea if Pleasant was not worth promoting in that way or if instead they have a problem promoting from within.

It's all such an unknown that it feels kind of pointless spending a ton of energy speculating. For me I look at the bottom line. When the overall dish is bad, I start questioning the chef on his process at that point. But when he's producing a consistently good product, I extend quite a bit of trust on those matters that I don't have enough details to judge.
