It's not just the money (if that's even it), it's the position

Look. Every one of these guys was promoted. I suspect that they got a raise because that comes with promotion.
But never have I ever heard of the Rams organization being cheap...... on anything! However a dollar earned in California is worth far less than a dollar earned almost anywhere else in the USA. So a coach earning, say $250K for the Rams, going to a team outside the state and earning the SAME, will make that money stretch a lot farther. And it's not just by a little bit.

Here's one to consider (but no offense is meant). Some may just want out of California and they got the opportunity. Tom Brady was blunt that one of the primary motivating factors for him to come to Tampa (rather than to some team like the Niners or Chargers) was the favorable Florida tax situation (no income tax).

I don't think residents of California always realize just how onerous the tax situation, the extreme housing costs, the high cost of everything, overcrowding, and the over reaching government can affect some people's decisions. It is no secret that California is facing substantial out migration right now of the middle and upper classes.

I admit, this is only my speculation. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about. I was born and raised in California, hold property there, most of my family lives there, and some are actively in the move out process and others seriously thinking about, and for the exact reasons I said.

Football coaches are people, too, and face the same issues as the rest of us and no doubt use the same factors for decision making.
