Pleasant only has 1 year in the Staley system, which is one more than Morris but hardly makes Pleasant an expert. On the other side of the coin Morris has 5 years experience as a DC plus 11 games as interim HC - experience that Pleasant doesn't have.

Someone on this board recently made this point, but you promote someone not only for what they have done in their current role but what you expect them to do in their new job . We have all see coordinators move up to HC and fail, only to go back to successful careers back in their coordinator job. Perhaps during his time with the Rams Pleasant has distinguished himself as a position coach but not exhibited the qualities the team is looking for at DC?
