Good question, Rock.
Wanting Watson and being able to afford to get Watson are 2 very different things.
Rams do not lack for motivation to get a star QB. Let’s see...
Rams feel that they are only a top QB away from being SB worthy, heck they might even become the favorites.
Adding a C and an edge, maybe a WR deep speed threat should be relatively easy to accomplish this offseason, making this new O almost unstoppable.
Rams desire a splash addition as they open their palace to their fans. What better splash than a shiny new stud QB?
Prolific Offenses fill seats and attract FA’s.
A dual threat QB gives D’s fits, always a desirable thing.
A stud QB covers up a lot of other shortcomings on a given roster. Invaluable.
Having said all that, I don’t know if even Demoff/Snead can make the numbers work out. And even though Watson has that trade clause, I’m sure that there’s some point below which the Texans will NOT go.
I still consider Watson a Rams long shot. More likely we’ll see a Minshew/Darnold type move while Rams also work the draft until they finally hit paydirt someday.
