You state that Goff had a somewhat subpar year. Could it be that they don't feel that his normal "par", whatever that is, is good enough? He's been on a downward slide for over 2 years now.

Maybe they see what he has been over the last 41 games as who he really is. Possible?

As to competition, I've never understood why QBs have to be protected from that. They're supposed to be leaders who are the best and the strongest, not mentally fragile. If all the rest of the players are subject to competition and they handle it well, why shouldn't the QB have to compete too and be expected to handle it well?

My guess is the other players in the room don't mind the QB being subject to the same competition they have to go through.

It is most likely you are correct about how they feel about par/subpar or we wouldn't be here.

The 41 game thing I've seen thrown around a lot? And this isn't me being argumentative just curious...based on what QB rating? I would only care what our record is in those 41 games and honestly I don't know the answer. I would surmise it's winning football?

Competition is fine
But even a person that has no respect for Goff would admit this is
unheard of it's very abnormal
That you would blatantly as an organization tell media
Your guy you thought enough of a couple years ago to give 134 million
to is in open competition with John Wolford...that's my opinion anyway.

I do think today's players pay attention to how their peers
"Faces of franchise" are treated by management. In this case that could be a bad thing or it could be a good thing .

I personally think it's bad business to be doing this not behind closed doors.
And I think now the situation between Goff and Rams is in disrepair ....of course this in my speculation with no proof to back that up
