McVay made the right call in starting Wolford. McVay said Wolford earned his position on the team and that he was confident in him. Goff has a busted thumb, you don't roll the dice on an unknown like that.
Goff came in and did a good enough of a job to help get the win. But certainly the defense and running game won the day for us.
Goff has had some good and bad games this year. Overall this year he's been mediocre, like Jeff Fisher.
Wolford didn't look good to me. Yeah he can run better, but we all saw how that turned out. I think you've got to be a little stupid to be diving head first towards the defense. Busting up a QB is probably worth a 15 yd penalty, and we even didn't get that. Wolford was stupid in that run, and if McVay called that play then that was stupid too. Those are not the kind of risks you take early in a game like this.
Goff has look like he's been lost, not thinking quickly / not processing, not taking the shot. Some guys have said he's lost his confidence, he's mentally bound up. It looks that way to me also. But he isn't a lost cause and he isn't a disaster. Maybe he's been over-coached or maybe he's his own worst enemy. I don't know, I'm not a shrink. But he isn't the Goff of yesteryear. I think he showed some great character and dedication to go in and do as well as he did. That's leadership. I'm still a Goff supporter and hoping for improvement. I'd hate to lose him to another team at this point only to see him flourish elsewhere. In the past he's proved he has all-pro skillz.
