Goff is far from perfect, but frankly.....I believe he is a top 10 quarterback with an adjusted scheme. He is Matt Ryan in his prime.
Here is a question: How do you think Kyle Shanahan would do with Goff at QB running that offense? TE friendly, with a FB.....closer to a true West Coast offense? Shanahan would trade Jimmy G. in a heartbeat for Goff.
This gimmicky offense is played out. It's been played out. The Giants and Cowboys almost beat us. The Jets beat us. The 9ers beat us, the Dolphins beat us. The Seahawks almost beat us twice (thank you Darious Williams)
The Seahawks have the 32nd ranked pass defense....the Jets have the 28th.....and McVay ran the same crap he runs every single week. The Hawks weren't surprised by anything today.
Gimmicky offenses don't last. Ask Martz. Ask June Jones.
I'll give McVay a ton of credit in tonight's post game presser: he took the blame for the bad play calling.
The same offense that GB and CIN are using? The offense still works and the Bengals backup Allen put up 300+, 2TD and NO interceptions today. Goff is rattled and off his game and has been for over 2 years. That's the problem.
Yes, if he has a great o-line, all-pro RB and a scheme that the rest of the NFL wasn't ready for he can look great. Under "real" circumstances and realistic situations, Goff has looked pedestrian, if not bad. He looked terrible as a rookie and has sunk back down to that level under McVay. I was like most and assumed that the physical talent would be enough to wait out the mental side catching up. That doesn't look too likely at this moment.
