I had this debate with a fellow Ram fan during game.
His take and it seems popular in this forum and from media pundits.
Is that McVay calls his offense dumbs it down etc to cover up Goffs shortcomings like he gameplans around Goff and would be calling better games with more innovative stuff if not for Goff.9

I can't imagine McVay was not consulted when Rams gave Goff the 134 million dollar contract. It seems absurd the franchise forced Goff on him. So I say McVay was all in with Goff no way he links himself to someone he's got to "game plan" around for his future,
He and Goffs success are inked to one another imo ...If Goff fails McVay fails.... Vice versa
I believe it's same concept we just lack the parts Cooks,Watkins,Healthy Gurley thst made it work.... that and Def coordinators figuring out the gimmicky nature.
Anyway this is not a defense of Goff

yeah, that's the simpleton myth.....was he dumbing the offense down in 2017-2018 when we were top offense in football? or did we just have better pieces on offense back then???
like you said, do you really think they would have signed Goff to extension if that was the case???
I watch a lot of the coaches tape and its pretty evident in the film that Goff doesn't have what he once had and defenses just sit on our routes because there is zero deep threat and McVay doesn't seem to even try running what we used to. People want to blame it all on Goff but fail to realize that we just aren't the same offense at all anymore and its not because of Goff, he didn't forget how to play QB, he simply lost his best weapons and his confidence...teams simply play cover two with man underneath and smother our wide WR's...especially when we cant run the ball...when was the last time you saw someone wide open in this offense? It's rare....I thought they would try to address the Cooks skill set in the draft, but they didn't....I bet McVay regrets letting Cooks go right now, I'm sure Goff does....I do.
