Yes, you have been, max. And that’s fine, because Goff definitely has his shortcomings.
But his results under McVay have been quite good all things considered.
And his post-bye improvement under pressure is very encouraging.
I don’t know how high Goff’s ceiling might be, but I do feel certain that he hasn’t reached it yet. I’m just gonna try to enjoy the ride.
I agree that Goff hasn't reached his ceiling. I'm also saying, he's not in the class with the elite QBs. But he's also not a liability, or a QB that needs to be game planned around. He has skills that go under appreciated by the lazy observer.
When Goff is on, he is deadly on the intermediate throws, probably better than any QB in the NFL. He reminds me of Ken Stabler in that respect. Thats a big reason why the Rams can get all those YAC from Kupp and Woods. But, for some reason, Goff gets criticized when his receivers get all those YACs, as if he has nothing to do with them.
Yes, obviously he makes mistakes - too many mistakes to be considered among the elite. But that bolded part is crucial: his high-end play is sublime. As good-as-anybody great. Very-few-others-can-do-it great. (I won't say better than anybody in the intermediate game because I watch few other teams w/any regularity.) And it's not like we've seen him be as-good-as-anybody for a few throws or a half here and there. If you picked the best two dozen QB performances of the last four years or so, our own JG would contribute a few. Nog many QB's would.
And I'm not just talking stats.
I'm talking throws that make your jaw drop. Throws few QBs even have the skills to attempt. I'm talking toughness. Clutch play. Nutty accuracy.
He's not a top-5 QB right now. No way. All told, he's not even top-10.
But there aren't 5 other QBs in the NFL who can, AT THEIR BEST, can dial up what Jared can dial up at HIS best. It's just weird to me that a Rams fans can watch this guy post-Fisher and doubt how high his ceiling is.
And he's 26. AND a good guy to boot.
That makes me very excited to see where he's able to take my favorite team - this year and in the years to come.
